Here We Go..
This houseparent journey started with lots of unknowns, and I'm sure there will be many more to come. But we have a fairly good idea of what we’ll be experiencing. And by fairly good idea I mean we think we know some, but everyday is a new adventure and learning experience. We had originally thought we’d be in a home with boys, but it changed to teenage girls. At first we were both apprehensive..teenage girls, right? 😱 But now after meeting and spending time with them I don’t think I can imagine being anywhere else.
We’ve been praying for them,
and a word I keep hearing is valuable. I hope we can show them how valuable they are despite their circumstances, defined by who God says they are, not what they may think or who others have said they are, or aren’t.
Being a teenager is hard enough but to add horrific things and subtract a loving family is something I can’t comprehend and leaves me in awe of their resilience and ability to work through their issues. Another awe moment is seeing my sweet husband flourish in this new role. They were almost immediately “our” girls and he went into protective dad mode, muttering about boys talking to them and thinking up ways to make them each feel special. Definitely a swoon worthy moment 😍
We’ve also been so blessed with the most amazing counterparts who have been doing this for so long, their knowledge is amazing and we have been trying to soak it up as fast as we can. They’re kind, patient and encouraging, and their love for these kids shows in everything they do. Tomorrow we’ll switch places with them and the safety of having them there to answer questions and confirm what we’re doing is correct will be gone. A text away maybe but still a tiny bit scary. So prayers are appreciated. For us-wisdom, discernment and accepting that we are most definitely not going to get everything right.
For our girls-that they feel loved, cared for and valued.
For our tag team parents-rest, rejuvenation and connection after working a month straight. We are grateful for this opportunity, for these ladies we get to share part of our life with, the people we get to work with and the fact that we are able to do this together 💛
